Most people are extremely busy during the holidays, whether they’re baking, shopping or enjoying themselves with some form of holiday merriment. Unfortunately, for non-commerce bloggers this typically means that their blog sees a significant drop in traffic. Some blogging experts recommend that people cease their blogging during the holidays in order to not waste their content. However, the truth is there are plenty of ways to keep your blog traffic numbers high during the holiday season as long as you’re willing to put in a little extra work. Let’s take a looks at some ways to keep your holiday traffic up during this merry time of year.
Social Media to the Rescue
Mobile browsing is your best friend during the holidays. You can use the magic of social media to leverage your traffic by curating and scheduling your blog content to your social media channels. Both Facebook and Twitter are the most well-known and used apps for mobile users so take advantage of their platforms by using captivating images so that users that are browsing will be enticed to click on your article.
Use Holiday Themes on Your Blog
Why not embrace the joy of the holidays by writing a few holiday-themed blog posts? You’ll attract more seasonal visitors to your website and write content on a topic that’s on everyone’s mind this time of year. Although holiday visitors may not be the most ideal traffic, they will add impressions to your blog and some may even turn into leads.
Do a Holiday Giveaway
You may want to consider doing a holiday giveaway such as free access to your eBook or even putting together a holiday basket. People love free stuff, especially on the holidays! You can even make giving something away benefit you by asking that people submit their emails in order to put themselves in the drawing and share it with their friends, thus helping to increase your social sharing and email list.
Be Savvy with Your Links
Both external and internal links increase the credibility of your content and also the chance that more people will find your blog during the holidays. Look at your existing blog posts’ performance and take note of the ones that have done really well in the past. Be strategic about where you input internal links and use your landing pages to show holiday promotions and optimize your already existing exposure.
Think About Creating a Gift Guide
Gift guides can be the ideal way to earn some extra holiday blog traffic, get free products to use towards gifts and share your favorite holiday gift ideas. Start by writing down some of your gift guide ideas and finding the gifts that you want to include in it. One great way to do this is to save them to a private Pinterest board. If you want to reach out to brands to ask for free products for you to review for the guide, then it’s best to do so a couple of months in advance as brands plan for the holiday season well ahead of the holidays.
Plan Out Holiday Content in Advance
You ideally want to have your content planned at least a month in advance at any time of the year. However, this is especially important when it comes to the holiday season. Don’t wait until Thanksgiving wraps up to start thinking about the topics you want to write about during the holidays. Brainstorm topics you want to share in advance. Pinterest is a great place to find inspiration to do so. Will you want to share some of your favorite holiday recipes or share your photography tips on capturing the best family photo? Put your most promising ideas in a calendar and then save the rest.
